Skip paperwork and e-verify your Income Tax Return using SBI NetBanking. Follow this guide to generate an EVC and validate your return instantly.
Completing the process of filing an income tax return (ITR) requires a mandatory step known as verification. Until this step is finished, the Income Tax Department will not process the return. Historically, taxpayers had to print the ITR-V acknowledgement, sign it, and physically mail it to the Central Processing Centre (CPC) in Bangalore.
To modernize and simplify this procedure, the government introduced electronic verification methods. Taxpayers can now validate their returns using an Electronic Verification Code (EVC). An EVC is a unique 10-character alphanumeric code linked to a specific PAN. It is important to note that a single EVC applies to only one return; if a revised return is filed, a fresh code must be generated. Successfully verifying via EVC eliminates the need to send hard copies of the ITR-V to the CPC.
Steps to E-Verify via State Bank of India (SBI)
If you have an account with the State Bank of India, you can easily verify your return through their net banking facility. Ensure your bank is authorized by the income tax department for this service before proceeding.
- Log in to NetBanking: Access your SBI net banking account using your secure credentials.
- Locate the Tax Option: On the dashboard or home page, look for the tab designated for income tax filing.
- Select E-Verify: Choose the option to e-verify. This action will redirect you from the bank’s website to the government’s e-filing portal.
- Confirm Verification: Once redirected to the e-filing dashboard, navigate to the relevant ITR form or service and click the ‘e-Verify’ button.
Upon completion, a success message containing a transaction ID will appear on the screen. Additionally, a confirmation notification will be sent to your registered mobile number and email address.
