Geojit Financial Services, established in 1987, is a prominent investment services provider in India. It is recognized for being the first brokerage to launch online trading capabilities and offers a wide array of financial products, including equities, mutual funds, derivatives, and commodities. With a vast network of over 500 offices in India and a footprint in the Middle East, Geojit provides robust tools for investors.

One key feature offered by the platform is the ability to access Profit and Loss (P&L) statements. These reports allow investors to evaluate their financial performance over previous fiscal years and adjust their investment strategies. Furthermore, these statements are crucial documents required for filing annual income tax returns.

Understanding the Geojit P&L Statement

Under the Income Tax Act, earnings generated from the sale of assets such as stocks, bonds, or mutual funds are classified as ‘Income from Capital Gains’. Depending on how long the asset was held, these gains are categorized as either Short-Term Capital Gains (STCG) or Long-Term Capital Gains (LTCG), each attracting different tax rates.

Consequently, when submitting an Income Tax Return (ITR), it is mandatory to declare these details. Geojit simplifies this compliance by enabling users to download annual profit and loss statements.

Steps to Retrieve Capital Gains Statements from Geojit

Investors can follow the procedure below to access and download their P&L reports from the Geojit platform:

  1. Log in to the Portal: Visit the official Geojit website and sign in using your user credentials.

  2. Access Statements: Locate the triple bar icon in the top-left corner of the dashboard. Select the ‘Statements’ option from the menu and navigate to the ‘Capital Gains’ statement section.

  3. Select the Financial Year: Within the Capital Gains section, go to ‘Tax-Based Vas’. Enter the required details, choose the relevant fiscal year (e.g., 2024-25), and click the ‘Submit’ button.

  4. Download the File: The system will generate the report and send it to your registered email address in ZIP format. Download the attachment and extract the ZIP file to view your detailed capital gains statement.
