GST registration certificate in Form REG-06: issued electronically and downloaded from the GST portal under Services then User Services then View or Download Certificates, valid until cancelled or surrendered, and to be displayed at the place of business

The GST registration certificate is issued electronically in Form GST REG-06 and can be downloaded from the GST portal under Services > User Services > View/Download Certificates. There is no physical copy; it stays valid until cancelled or surrendered, and registered businesses must display it prominently at their principal place of business.

The GST registration certificate (Form GST REG-06) is the official document confirming a business’s Registration under India’s GST law. This guide explains how to download the Certificate, its contents, validity rules, amendment procedures, and common troubleshooting steps.

What Is a GST Registration Certificate?

A GST registration certificate, formally known as Form GST REG-06, is issued upon successful GST registration. It contains the taxpayer’s GST Identification Number (GSTIN) and details of all registered business locations. The government issues only digital certificates through the GST portal. No physical copies are provided.

The Certificate is digitally signed or verified by a tax officer using EVC before being made available for download. It applies to several taxpayer categories, including regular taxpayers, TDS deductors, TCS collectors, entities required to obtain a Unique Identity Number under Section 25(9) of the CGST Act, non-residents offering OIDAR services, and businesses that migrated from previous tax regimes.

How to Download the GST Registration Certificate

Follow these five steps to download your Form GST REG-06:

1. Log in to the GST Portal with your credentials

2. Navigate to Services, then User Services, then View/Download Certificate

3. Click the Download icon next to the Certificate

4. Open the PDF document and print it

5. Display the printed Certificate at all business locations within the State or Union Territory

The downloaded Certificate is in PDF format and includes a digital signature from the verifying officer. Ensure the PDF reader supports digital signature verification to confirm the Certificate’s authenticity.

Validity of the GST Registration Certificate

Taxpayer TypeValidity PeriodRenewal
Regular taxpayersIndefinite (no expiry)Not required unless cancelled/surrendered
Casual taxable personsMaximum 90 daysMust be extended before expiry
Non-resident taxable personsAs specified during RegistrationMust be renewed before expiry

The Certificate becomes valid from the date the person was liable for Registration, provided the application was submitted within 30 days. Otherwise, validity starts from the Certificate’s issuance date under CGST Rules 9(1), 9(3), and 9(5). If processing delays occur under CGST Rule 9(5), the officer must transmit the signed Certificate within three working days.

Contents of the GST Registration Certificate

The Certificate comprises three parts: the main Certificate, Annexure A, and Annexure B.

The main Certificate includes the taxpayer’s GSTIN, trade name and legal name, business constitution type (Partnership, Company, Proprietorship, Trust), address of the principal business location, date of liability, period of validity, registration type, approving authority details (name, designation, jurisdictional office, digital signature), and the certificate issuance date.

Annexure-A provides the GSTIN, legal name, trade name, and details of any additional places of business declared during Registration.

Annexure-B lists the GSTIN, legal name, trade name, and key personnel information including names, designations, state of residence, and photographs of the proprietor, partners, Karta, managing directors, whole-time directors, or board of trustees members.

How to Amend GST Registration Details

GST registration modifications fall into two categories. Core field changes require tax officer approval and include the business’s legal name (without PAN change), primary and secondary business locations (within the same state), and addition or removal of key stakeholders. Non-core field changes do not require officer approval and include bank details, business activity descriptions, authorised signatories, and minor address changes.

To amend details, navigate to Services, then Registration, then Amendment of Registration Core Fields or Non-Core Fields on the GST portal. Make the changes, upload supporting documents, and verify using DSC, e-Signature, or EVC. For detailed instructions, refer to the amendment guide.

GST Certificate for Different Business Types

Each business type has specific features on its GST certificate. Regular taxpayers receive standard registration details and are entitled to claim the Input Tax Credit. Composition taxpayers must prominently display their Certificate, identifying them as composition dealers who do not collect GST from customers and cannot claim ITC.

Casual taxable persons conducting occasional supplies (such as at exhibitions) receive a 90-day certificate. Non-resident taxable persons operating temporarily in India must display their GSTIN details at their premises. Exporters receive certificates that include export-related information, signifying their eligibility for IGST exemption or ITC refunds.

Alternative Download Methods

Besides the GST portal, the Certificate can be obtained through authorised GST Service Providers approved by the GST Network (users register, enter their GSTIN, and follow download instructions), through mobile applications offered by some providers, or by visiting the jurisdictional GST office in person with a written request and supporting documents for a physical copy.

Common Download Challenges

If you encounter issues downloading the Certificate, use the Forgot Username or Forgot Password options on the login page to recover your credentials. Double-check your 15-digit GSTIN for accuracy before attempting download. For technical errors or system downtime, try again later or contact the GSTN helpdesk for assistance.
